Head Lice Comb
A good head lice comb is important if you really want to get rid of each and every louse. A good nit comb is cheap but effective in your battle against the creepy crawlies.
There are different types of combs available for dealing with a lice infestation. My suggestion is that you have 3 different combs available for your use when you begin your head lice treatment.
- Wide tooth comb - A wide tooth comb is good to begin with so that you can detangle the hair. You'll have a lot less tears (both your and your child's) if you aren't trying to comb through tangled hair with a fine tooth comb.
- Fine tooth comb - A fine tooth comb may be all that is necessary if you catch the lice infestation early on and don't have too many nits or live active lice. A white comb or a very light colored comb is easier to work with. You can see the lice more easily while you are combing them out.
- Head lice comb - A proper nit comb is especially designed with stiff teeth that are very close together. Although these nit combs may seem a bit harder to work with, they do tend to be more successful in removing the lice eggs.
Always remember to soak all of your combs in hot water for at least 20 minutes after using them for lice removal. You should also include any other brushes, combs and hair clips that may have been in contact with an infested head in the last couple of days.
Encourage your children not to share their hat, brush, comb, or any other headgear with their friends. Sharing is a great quality, except when it comes to hair lice.
To your good health!
