The Head Of A Tick

by Patricia M. Caruso
(Lombard IL)

If a tick's head is left in the body under the skin can it still survive?

Hi Patricia,

I wouldn't necessarily say that the tick's head can still "survive" but it is not good to leave the head of a tick in your skin.

Some people have found that putting alcohol on the area makes it easier to remove the tick and its parts.

I would even try putting hydrogen peroxide on the tick head and see if the head comes out with the bubbles.

Just keep an eye on the skin around the tick bite. If you start to develop a rash, flu like symptoms, etc., that would a sign that you are having infection from the tick bite. It would be worth the effort to go to the doctor if it appears you develop these signs.
