I hope you didn't have any trouble downloading Teresa Schumacher's book Cleansing the Body and the Colon for a Happier and Healthier You. If you haven't had a chance to read it yet, I encourage you to do so. It's a real eye-opener!

If you haven't downloaded the book yet, you can get it here. Feel free to share this book with friends, as well.

Are you drinking poisoned water?

Just because it tastes okay or has a label that says "pure" or "natural" doesn't mean it's safe!

In recent newsletters we've talked about the toxins in the air we breathe and other contaminants that we face throughout our daily lives.

In the last letter I told you about the foot detox patches that I use from Verseo. They help remove the heavy metals through the soles of your feet while you sleep.

Have you tried them yet? If you have, I'd love to hear how they worked for you! Use the form at the bottom of the foot detox patches page to share your results.

But what about the contaminants in the water you drink?

poisoned water Our body is made up of more than 70% water. Because of this, we need good quality drinking water to stay hydrated and healthy.

The condition of the world's water is in a shocking state. Because of the pollution, pesticides, herbicides, dumping of toxic waste and the myriad of other contaminants, our water quality is extremely poor.

Yes, we do have water treatment plants that are an absolute necessity if we don't want to drink poisoned water. However, we are just trading one poison for another. The chemicals used to treat our drinking water (chlorine, fluoride, lead, etc.) are poisons in and of themselves. Many of them are known carcinogens (cancer causing agents).

Many people have been driven to buying bottled water, thinking that it would be a healthier alternative to tap water. This has proven to be untrue. In fact, the FDA requires less of the bottled water manufacturers than they do of the water treatment plants. So, that expensive water you are drinking may be no better than common tap water!

I won't even get into the amount of plastic bottles that make their way to the landfills and oceans as a result of this bottled water craze (over 60,000,000 per day).

What can you do?

water filter There is a fairly simple and economical solution to the problem of poisoned water. A good quality water filter will remove the chemicals placed in your water by the treatment plants, leaving the healthy minerals behind. It will also remove toxins that the treatment plant left behind - some herbicides, pesticides, and bacteria like Giardia.

I wanted to find a solution for my own family, and was afraid it was going to cost me a fortune. After doing a bit of research, I was pleasantly surprised to find Aquasana. They've been awarded the 'Best Buy' award by Consumer's Digest for the past 5 years in a row.

When I realized that I could get good quality healthy water for my family for less than 10 cents a gallon, I was sold. I opted for the countertop filter as well as the shower filter. (Amazingly, you absorb more chemicals through your skin and through breathing the steam than you actually do from drinking the stuff!)

Don't underestimate the benefit of drinking healthy alkaline water. So many common ailments and illnesses can be prevented and greatly reduced by an increased intake of healthy water. Headaches, hypertension, back pain, arthritis, ulcers, asthma, morning sickness, and fatigue can all be eased (and in many cases be prevented) by regulating the body's natural fluid levels. You can even increase your metabolism!

If you are doing a colon cleanse or any type of body detox, you particularly need to be sure that you are giving your body enough good water each day to rejuvenate and heal itself.

Quick Tip for avoiding food borne illnesses and contamination in the kitchen...

Switch from plastic to wooden cutting boards! It's one of the easiest things you can do in the kitchen to reduce the chances of bacteria growth and improve food safety.

For a while it was believed that plastic was better and safer, but recent research and testing has proven that bacteria microorganisms do not survive as well on wooden cutting boards as they do on plastic when they are both cleaned regularly. Interesting, huh?
