Flu Complications

flu complications

Flu complications generally arise when you are exposed to one of the many flu viruses and your immune system is too weak to fight off the virus and flush it out of your system.

The first sign that you typically get is a series of flu symptoms that can range from minor to severe, depending on the strain of virus and your body's own resistance.

No one likes to have the flu! There are precautions we can take to try to avoid getting the "bug" but sometimes even the best of precautions aren't quite enough to let you escape.

I do my best to avoid the flu by supporting my immune system year round with a semi-healthy diet (I do cheat more than I should) and nutritional supplements. My favorite is the Garden Trio.

I also keep Herbal Fiberblend on hand at all times to use as a safe and quick cleanse if I know I've been exposed to flu germs or if I am caught unawares by flu symptoms. HFB has been a real life saver for me.

But, like I said earlier, even with careful vigilance, we can still end up with a bout of the flu. You can usually tell you've got the flu if you start experiencing some of these common flu symptoms:

  • upset stomach
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • headaches
  • fever
  • aches around the body
  • sore throat
  • cough
  • extra tiredness

I guess you could say that those are all "typical" symptoms of the flu and nothing to out of the ordinary. For most people, the symptoms will pass in a few days or maybe a couple of weeks.

Support your body as much as possible during this time with nutritional supplements, beneficial teas, vitamin C, garlic, and other antioxidants.

In some cases, particularly for those with a pre-existing health concern or a very low immune system, more serious flu complications can arise. Some of these complications include...

  • pneumonia
  • ear infections
  • sinus infections
  • dehydration
  • inflammation in the muscles
  • and even an infection around the heart (pericarditis).

If you begin to think that your flu symptoms are a little more severe than you would expect or are concerned about a more serious condition developing, it may be wise for you to see a health consultant.

To your good health!
