Are you wondering if you are suffering from Candida Symptoms? Candida, also known as thrush, is a yeast infection that many people suffer from, especially after having used antibiotics.
Candida albicans is a yeast which is actually a fungus. Everyone has a small amount of candida in their body, and for the most part it is kept in balance and doesn't cause us any trouble.
It is when the balance is tipped that the troubles begin. The candida becomes a yeast infection (candidiasis) that invades and attacks many parts of the body, even traveling into the blood.
The growing yeast creates inflammation and toxins that sap the immune system and cause a variety of irritable candida symptoms.
Symptoms of Candida Infections
There are a whole range of symptoms that can be caused by a yeast infection. Many of the symptoms can also be the result of some other problem but if you have taken antibiotics in the last year, it is a good idea to consider candida and try to eliminate it or at least rule it out.
Antibiotics are one of the worst offenders when it comes to tipping that scale and setting those yeast fungi on a rampage, but they are not alone. Contraceptives (birth control pills), various drugs, chronic infections, a high sugar diet, poor digestion, hormonal changes, or diabetes could also be the culprit.
Candida microbes are very opportunistic and will jump at any chance to claim new territory. It doesn't take much to set things in motion, that's why candida symptoms are such a prevalent problem.
Candidiasis can result in symptoms in many areas of the body:
Chronic Digestive Problems - bloating, diarrhea, chronic stomach inflammation, swelling of the lips and tongue, heartburn, inflammation of the esophagus, rectal burning and itching.
Female Disorders - chronic vaginal discharge, vaginitis, chronic inflammation of the urinary canal, pms, painful breasts, hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, and, most commonly, chronic yeast infections of the vagina.
Male Disorders - inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis), benign enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy), penile infections, and most commonly, chronic loss of libido (sexual function).
Chronic Fungal Infections - infections of the skin and/or nails; acne, psoriasis, athlete's foot, jock itch, hives, and other rashes.
Central Nervous System Disorders - learning disabilities, agitation, depression.
Respiratory Problems - swollen membranes of the nose and throat, nagging cough, sore throat, clogged sinuses, congestion, and allergic reactions to things you eat, breathe in, or touch.
Mouth Disorders - thrush which can cause burning or spotted tongue, soreness in the corners of the mouth, canker sores, bad breath.
These are some of the most common symptoms that people experience as a result of a candida infection, often referred to as Candida Related Complex.
