Frequent Vaginal Infections

by Lisa

I've had recurring frequent vaginal infections, although I've visited the doctor 4 times last year and once since the new year began.

Apparently the antibiotics aren't working. Presently I'm using a herbal detox. Don't know if it will work?

Hi Lisa,

Frequent vaginal infections are usually the result of yeast overgrowth in the body. Unfortunately, antibiotics tend to make matters even worse in the long run because they kill off the good bacteria in your body, too.

Your body needs the good bacteria (called probiotics) to keep the yeast from growing out of control.

Instead of taking more and more antibiotics, consider taking probiotics and trying to build up the good bacteria in your immune system. I usually recommend Florafood, but you may be able to find some good quality probiotics in your area (acidophilus, bifidum, longum, etc.).

It's good that you are using an herbal detox. If it is a high quality detox, it should definitely help. I would have recommended that, too (Herbal Fiberblend).

Also, you should try to cut back on your sugar intake. Sugar feeds fungus, which is what the yeast really is.

If you can get some raw, organic apple cider vinegar, you can use the vinegar (straight or diluted) to cleanse the vaginal area. This will help with the itching, etc., and help to clear up the infection more quickly.

Another helpful option is to apply plain organic yogurt to the vaginal area. It's messy, but effective. Be sure the yogurt doesn't have any added sugar in it.

Finally, if you are sexually active, you may also be passing this infection back and forth. Guys get yeast infections, too. It would be wise for him to be taking probiotics and doing an herbal cleanse, too.

Hope this helps. To your good health!
Angie

Hi, thanks for your medical advice. You were right! the infection kept transfering to my partner and then back to me. So my doctor recommended antibiotics for both of us. Like i said it kept coming back. Will try the raw organic cider vinegar or plain organic yogurt which you suggested. And probiotics. However i am happy that i started the herbal detox. Will let you know how that plays out.And maybe it will save me alot of money going to the doctor's office regularly. Thanks again.

Hi Lisa,

So glad to be of help. I can't really give "medical advice" since I'm not a doctor, but I like to consider myself as giving "sisterly" or "motherly" advice based on my personal experiences and my research. :-) If I can help others, it's a blessing to me, too.

Do let me know how you progress and how your herbal detox works for you. By the way, which one are you using? Feel free to write a review when you're finished. You may be able to help others who come along after you.

How long to hold the yogurt? NEW
by: Teri

Hi!

Thank you for putting together this site.

I was wondering, when you suggest to apply the yogurt, what exactly do you do? Just smear it and wait? For how long?

Thank you!

Hi Teri,

Yes, you just smear the yogurt on the vaginal area and leave it set for as long as you can stand it. It doesn't burn or anything (brings relief actually), it's just messy. :)

Typically I place a towel on the bed and grab a book to read so that I have something handy to distract me. I usually only last about 10-15 minutes. That seems to be sufficient if you do that a couple of times during the day.

Just remember to use organic yogurt that doesn't have sugar in it, etc.

I always use Herbal Fiberblend, too, to clean out the yeast overgrowth from the inside. It makes a definite difference over the long haul. Otherwise you tend to get recurring flare ups.
