Skin Burrowing Bugs

by Penny
(Luray, VA)

A coworker was speaking of an acquaintance of hers that had been itching and not knowing why. He poured alcohol over a spot where he had been scratching and when he did, tiny black bugs came out of him. What the heck can this be?

This has been bothering me since she told me as I let my granddaughter play outside and do not want this to happen to her. The location is Luray, Virginia.

Hi Penny,

These skin burrowing bugs could be scabies, mites (although they aren't known to burrow and stay), or some other little parasite. It's hard for me to say specifically.

If your granddaughter shows signs of itching and/or irritation, you can try some organic apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, or Indian neem oil on the skin.

It may also be a good idea to phone a local GP and ask if there is a parasite specific to your area that you need to be aware of. If it's a common occurrence for the region, they should be able to give you more details.

Let us know if you find out anything more specific.

To your good health!
Angie
