What Is Candida?

woman thinking what is candida yeast infectionAre you asking, "What is Candida?" Candida albicans is an overgrowth of yeast fungi in the body that can result in serious candida symptoms.

The human body normally has a small amount of candida in the mouth and intestines. In the case of females, there is also some in the vagina. This is not a problem.

In most cases, the body can live harmoniously with this small amount of fungus because the good bacteria keeps the bad bacteria in check.

Sometimes this delicate balance is altered and the fungus begins to grow and spread. This overgrowth of Candida albicans becomes a full blown yeast infection (candidiasis).

There are a number of symptoms that result from a candida overgrowth. Some of the most common are bloating, gas, intestinal cramping, and rectal itching and/or burning.

Depending on where in the body the overgrowth occurs, there is a full range of symptoms that will vary. In women, Candidiasis causes frequent cystitis and vaginal infections.

Those who suffer from chronic Candida will also be likely to experience the following symptoms:

  • generally unwell
  • irritability
  • depression
  • lack of energy
  • food allergies
  • chemical sensitivities

What Is Candida - Causes?

doctor giving antibiotics which causes yeast infection candidaCandida yeast infections can be caused by a number of outside influences. If your immune system is not strong, the delicate balance mentioned earlier can easily be unbalanced by a simple course of antibiotics.

Antibiotics are good for killing bacteria, but they can't tell the good from the bad. They just kill them all. This leaves your immune system in a weakened condition.

ANY time I am forced to take antibiotics, I am always careful to take probiotics at the same time, as well as for several weeks afterward. This gives the immune system a constant replenishing of good bacteria to help keep you well.

Other causes of imbalance that lead to candida infections are birth control pills (contraceptives), poor digestion, diabetes, too much sugar and/or carbohydrates in the diet, other medications, hormonal imbalances, exposure to tobacco, other parasite infections, and even stress.

What Is Candida - Remedies?

There are natural remedies for a candida cure that should be considered. There are two areas that need to be adjusted - your diet and your supplements.

You need to understand the basic candida diet guidelines so you will understand what you can and cannot eat if you want to get better.

Also you should be aware that your body needs particular types of herbs and nutritional supplements to cleanse and rebuild the intestinal tract and digestive function.

I prefer the antiparasitic herbs in Herbal Fiberblend for an effective herbal cleanse. It's a great combination of 17 different herbs that work wonderfully together. Herbal Fiberblend also saves me the hassle of having to measure and combine the herbs myself.

You can get high quality, fresh organic herbs at Mountain Rose Herbs if you want to buy them separately and do it yourself. These are the herbs and supplements recommended for a candida treatment.

  • Golden Seal - promotes more acid in the stomach and bile in the liver; antifungal
  • St. Mary's Thistle - also promotes stomach acid and liver bile as well as removes toxins from the liver
  • Echinacea Angustifolia - improves the immune function
  • Pau'D'Arco - improves the immune function; antifungal
  • Garlic - antifungal; I prefer Bear Paw Garlic as it is more potent
  • Probiotics (acidophilus) - replenish the good bacteria; My favorite is Florafood

***The bitter herbs are best taken in liquid or powder from rather than pills. They are more effective when your taste buds actually 'taste' the bitterness. It sends a signal to your body that jumpstarts the process.

You definitely can get control of your body using natural remedies for candida. The secret is to be consistent and strict with yourself. Be prepared to ride out some rough patches as your body starts to experience a candida detox.
