Home Remedies For Constipation

home remedies for constipation waterThere are a number of home remedies for constipation that will help start and keep things moving.

Everyone experiences constipation from time to time. Those occasional blockages can usually be attributed to something that we've eaten. There are particular foods that cause constipation.

In those instances, the bowels usually right themselves in a day or so all on their own. One of the things that helps is drinking plenty of water to help the waste pass.

If you don't have a good quality water filter and purifier, I'd recommend the ones by Aquasana. They have some of the best on the market.

If you want to take things one step further, seriously consider drinking alkaline water to improve your body pH and get the most from every glass of water you drink. You'll be amazed at the Genesis Platinum Water Ionizer.

If you have a habit of eating processed foods that are low in good fiber, you may experience symptoms of constipation on a regular basis. There are a number of simple home remedies for constipation that will help ease your discomfort.

Effective Home Remedies For Constipation

You've probably heard of some of the old home remedies for constipation that your Grandma used to recommend. A teaspoon or so of Castor oil or cod liver oil were quite popular choices. Eating prunes or drinking prune juice is right up there near the top, too.

There's nothing wrong with those old constipation remedies. They do work pretty well for a lot of people. But there are a number of other solutions for constipation that can be quite effective, too.

  • Fiber Supplements - Fiber like psyllium husks can help bulk up your stool and push its way on through. It's recommended that we get 25-35 grams of fiber in our diet each day to keep our intestines healthy and happy. Most of us don't.

I generally use Herbal Fiberblend because of the added benefit of the herbs. It cleanses the bowels and helps eliminate nasties that are stored there at the same time.

I've had great results with HFB personally, and I know a number of close friends who have come to swear by it.

If you are looking for a fiber supplement without the cleansing herbs, try the Fit-n-Fiber from AIM. It's a great option, too.

  • Aloe Vera Juice - Aloe works well as a home remedy for constipation. If you just drink a 1/4 cup a day you should be having much easier and regular bowel motions in no time at all.

Another benefit of Aloe is that it soothes an irritated bowel. So many people suffer from irritable bowel, colitis, and other painful intestinal problems. Aloe is a healthy solution for relief.

  • Reduce Your Caffeine - Something simple that works for some people is to cut back on the amount of tea and/or coffee that you drink. They each have properties that can dehydrate and that can lead to a dryer and harder bowel movement. That equals more pain and discomfort.

  • Alpine Tea - Alpina officinarum, known as Galangal root, can be quite helpful in aiding in the relief of constipation, gas, and bloating. You can get organic Galangal root and powder at exceptional prices at Mountain Rose Herbs.

  • Good Oils - Extra virgin olive oil and other good oils can aid in eliminating a constipated bowel. Healthy oils (particularly seed and fish oils) have Omega 3 and Omega 6 in them that are very beneficial in keeping the body "lubricated." That's why cod liver oil is effective. It contains Omega 3 fatty acids as well as Vitamin A and Vitamin D.

As an alternative to using the oils, I like to take AIMega capsules because of its combination of a number of beneficial seed oils. It contains flaxseed oil, olive oil, and sunflower oil, and sesame oil. It has the added benefit of helping to lower your cholesterol as well as lowering your risk of heart attack, stroke, and inflammation. Not a bad bonus to one of the home remedies for constipation!
