My dog has a weird thing on his neck

My dog has a weird thing on his neck. It's like a white ball that is about the size of a large oval pea. It seems to have little brown worms growing off it. It's on the back side of his neck.

Hi John,

Of course, I can only guess what might be on your dog's neck without actually seeing it.

Have you taken your dog to the vet? That would probably be your best option.

Dogs do get parasites quite often, but this could also be some type of tumor. I had a dog that developed a cancerous tumor on his leg. It was quite horrid looking and kept getting bigger and bigger.

We eventually had to put him down because of the cancer.

On the other hand, we had another dog who developed a weird growth on his belly. The vet said that it was a tumor from baking in the sun. This was a white dog.

We let it go, and strangely enough, it healed up. I'm not sure if it was something in particular we gave the dog, or just an answer to our prayers. :)

Are you certain this weird thing on his neck isn't a tick that has burrowed in and gotten infected?

You can try to put some essential oil (like Indian neem oil or tea tree oil) on the spot a few times a day and see if that doesn't help it to clear up. They have anti-bacterial properties.

If that doesn't help, I would definitely consider going to the vet to at least see if they can identify exactly what the problem is. Even if you want to use a natural remedy afterward, at least you may have a better idea of what you are dealing with.

Let us know what you find out!

Dog with Worms
by: Angie

It's probably a good idea to take your dog to the vet. A dog with worms is easily treated, but it may be something a little more serious.

Let us know what your vet has to say. :)

My dog has the same thing

He has the same thing...and they are little worms. I moved them and they wiggled (gross). I'm taking him to the vet since it looks like some sort of parasite.
