Toddler Constipation

by Lim Teng Sam
(Singapore)

My daughter is 2-1/2 years old and for the pass one week she has problem with her Bowel Movement.

I had try feeding her with Prune Juice and Fruit Juice, but apparently is not very effective as she only pass out pellet like stool on certain days and her abdomen always seem hard, tight after meal.

I sincerely appreciate if you can give me any advise on how overcome this issue for my daughter as she seem very uncomfortable and listless.

Thank you so much and look forward to your advise.

Best regards,
LimTS

Dear Lim,

I know it is very difficult when dealing with toddler constipation. It can be hard to get your little child to eat and drink what you would like them to eat and drink. :)

One of the most common causes of constipation in children is a lack of water. Really make every effort to get your little girl to sip as much water throughout the day as possible. You can add a little fresh squeezed orange juice to it if it will help her to drink more.

If water alone doesn't help, see if you can get some Salba or chia seeds. I don't know what all is available in Singapore, but these are easy to disguise in food and they don't have a bad taste. You can sprinkle a teaspoon in her cereal or yogurt, or some other favorite food.

This whole food is full of natural omega essential fatty acids and helps many people have a softer and better bowel motion. It's safe and easy for children to use.

Hope that helps. To your good health!
